New program addresses employee financial wellness

Money is the No. 1 thing people feel stressed about.

Financial worries top the list of the most common concerns for the last decade, according to a recent survey. The same report found that three-fourths of us feel stressed about money at least some of the time. The facts are real, and so is the stress. Stress puts us at increased risk for a number of health problems, such as depression, heart disease, weight gain and memory loss.

But worrying will not fix money problems. Becoming debt free or increasing retirement savings doesn’t happen without a plan. To help employees assess their financial wellness and take steps to accomplish their financial goals, Ascend announced today the launch of a new financial wellness program.

"At Ascend, we believe in a holistic approach to wellness that supports employees with not only their physical and emotional health but also their financial well-being," said Michael Martin, Ascend's total wellness director. "We want to meet employees where they are on their personal wellness journeys and provide them with the best tools and resources available."

The 90-day program, created in in partnership with financial services company Transamerica, will provide an assessment to help identify financial stress points, information courses on how to take simple actions to improve financial health and one-on-one advice from retirement specialists. Participating employees will be eligible to receive a $100 bonus.

"We believe a healthy employee is a safe employee," said Martin. "We’d like all employees to have their own continuous improvement-style success stories of achieving their health and performance goals."
