Lynn Crear Named Board Member of Ascend Cares Foundation

Ascend Performance Materials announced today that Lynn Crear has joined the board of directors of the Ascend Cares Foundation. Ascend Cares is the privately held non-profit foundation of Ascend Performance Materials Operations LLC, a premium provider of high-quality chemicals, fibers and plastics.

Crear is a business unit leader at the Ascend manufacturing plant in Alvin, Texas. She joined the company in 1998 as a manufacturing engineer at the Pensacola, Florida, plant, where she led adipic acid production. She holds a Bachelor of Science in chemical engineering from Northwestern University.

“Lynn’s experience at our two largest manufacturing sites gives her a good perspective of our employees and the communities in which we operate,” said Malcolm O’Neal, Ascend vice president of human resources and chairman of the Ascend Cares board. “She brings extensive leadership experience in community initiatives. We appreciate her willingness to serve Ascend Cares.”

The Ascend Cares Foundation was founded in 2011 to enable community outreach through direct assistance to employees facing special hardships, grants to support employees’ philanthropic efforts and company volunteerism. In 2012, Ascend team members built a Habitat for Humanity house for a member of the Alvin community.

Crear’s volunteer activities include tutoring and mentoring youth, supporting economic empowerment through financial literacy and preparing young adults to enter the workforce. She was selected by the Pensacola Chamber Foundation as a member of the 2012 class of Leadership Pensacola, where she was instrumental in raising more than $200,000 in support Operation Hope, a project to renovate the USO facilities at the Pensacola International Airport and the Naval Air Station.

“Ascend Cares is about making a difference in the lives of others,” said Marianne Cone, the foundation’s executive director. “Lynn is a leader who serves with compassion both inside and outside the organization, and we are fortunate to have her experience and perspective on the Board.”

In addition to Crear and O’Neal, board members include Ascend employees Jeff Bird, chief financial officer; Andrew Ralston, chief legal counsel; and Tom Boggs, plant manager of the company’s Foley, Alabama, location.
