Ascend’s Vydyne used in award-winning fastener

The Society of Plastics Engineers awarded the Ford Motor Co. the 2015 Automotive Innovation Award in the Body Exterior category for a push-to-release exterior fastener made with Ascend Performance Material's Vydyne PA66.

The fastener, used in the 2015 Ford Mustang, is made with Vydyne 47H, a grade produced at Ascend's Pensacola facility. Made from two pieces of injection-molded PA66, it provides a secure fit but can be quickly disassembled by hand by pushing a button. It is supplied to Ford by ITW Deltar Fasteners with tooling from A&P Tool Inc. and M&M Tool and Mold LLC.

“We’re honored to supply the Vydyne PA66 used in the 2015 Ford Mustang’s award-winning push-to-release exterior fasteners," said Bob Jacobs, north american sales director at Ascend. "This project was a successful collaboration between Ford, ITW Global Fasteners and Ascend. We are grateful for this opportunity and look forward to continuing to drive innovation in the automotive industry.”
