Ascend Performance Materials to exhibit PA66 material innovations at Plastics-In-Motion 2016

Ascend Performance Materials is showcasing new PA66 material innovations during the 2016 Plastics-In-Motion Global Automotive Plastics Congress & Exhibit, May 8-11 at the Francis Marion Hotel in Charleston, South Carolina.

Ascend Performance Materials manufactures PA66 (nylon 6,6) resin used in automotive cooling systems, interior and exterior systems, powertrain and under-hood components. The company also is one of the leading providers of nylon 6,6 fiber to the airbag and tire cord industries.

“Our significant experience and expertise in nylon 6,6, combined with our broad portfolio plays an important role in helping engineers and designers develop components and systems needed for advanced powertrain, cooling and electrical systems,” said Phil Jeszke, Ascend global automotive segment leader. “These materials deliver many advantages, including weight reduction and processing enhancements that benefit original equipment manufacturers and their suppliers.”

Ascend is highlighting its latest nylon 6,6 solutions for automotive applications with the following:

  • New Vydyne® PA66 glass reinforced (15 to 35 percent) grades for automotive, electrical and electronic components. These grades are electrically neutral, halogen-free, laser-markable, and offer high-flow and low-plate-out.
  • A new Vydyne® PA66 non-halogenated unreinforced FR (flame retardant) grade offers best-in-class RTI (Relative Temperature Index) performance. This FR grade is part of a major upgrade of Ascend’s solutions for electrical and electronic components.
  • Vydyne® PA66 grades for automotive cooling system applications. These hydrolysis-resistant materials (HR grades) can meet hydrolysis-aging requirements of 3,000 hours at 120 degrees C with improved property retention performance to exceed the increasing demands of global OEMs.
  • A heat-stabilized, impact-modified grade of Vydyne® PA66 used in the 2015 SPE Innovation Award in the Body Exterior Category for a push-to-release fastener used in Ford Motor Company’s 2015 Mustang.
