Ascend Performance Materials Continues to Innovate with Dyeable Anti-Static Fiber

Ascend Performance Materials, one of the world’s largest fully-integrated producers of nylon 6,6 resin, showcased on Thursday its groundbreaking product No-Shock®, an anti-static fiber that is both dyeable and chemical-free, and enables manufacturers – from yarn producers to apparel makers – to better meet the demands of consumers who want garments that are static-free, dust-repellent and more comfortable.

Ascend global business manager Harrie Schoots presented No-Shock at the American Association of Textile Chemists and Colorists’ New England region meeting in Providence, Rhode Island. The bi-component, conductive filament and staple platform is an exciting alternative for manufacturers who want to produce consumer goods with permanent anti-static functionality at low cost, Schoots said.

Anti-static fibers are traditionally used in carpets, military and industrial apparel. They also can be used in consumer apparel, but so far, their use has been limited because most of the fibers are black and do not integrate themselves well with fashion-colored fabrics. Ascend offers off-white anti-static fibers that are easily dyeable to match a variety of fabric colors. This versatility means the product can be used in variety of garments, including performance wear, children’s wear, and sueded and brushed materials such as fleece and athleisure wear.

“Ascend has finally provided apparel designers the customized anti-static fiber they have needed,” Schoots said. “This new product opens doors to many consumer apparel segment markets.

No-Shock is also environmentally friendly and safe. Many anti-static chemical finishes used to prevent static are finding themselves on restricted chemical lists. With No-Shock, there is no finish, no curing and no effluent. It is added to fabric before wet processing and remains in the fabric for its lifetime. In addition, No-Shock is REACH and Oeko-Tex Standard 100 Classification 1 compliant, a requirement for fibers used in children’s wear.

“No-Shock offers customers a reliable, cost-effective way to lower manufacturing costs and ensure a reliable static-free application because only small amounts are required. This makes it an ideal material for hair- and dust-repellent and free-flowing apparel applications,” Schoots noted.
