Ascend Performance Materials, the world’s largest fully integrated producer of nylon 6,6 resin, will present on the evolution of nylon 6,6 in North America at the Performance Polyamides 2017 conference. Steven Manning, Ph.D., the technology director for engineering plastics for Ascend, will discuss PA66’s growing role as an automotive plastic, especially in high-heat powertrain applications.
“Advances in automotive applications are primarily enabled by advances in material technology,” said Manning. “Our Vydyne® HR series, for example, plays an important part in helping auto manufacturers design more efficient, cleaner vehicles.
“Vydyne HR series’ best-in-class hydrolysis resistance means powertrain parts that are lighter and can withstand prolonged exposure to high temperatures and harsh chemicals,” continued Manning. “That gives manufacturers greater design flexibility and frees up some space to solve for newer challenges.”
Manning is the author of several academic papers and holds a number of patents related to polymer science. The presentation is scheduled for Tuesday, Nov. 14 at 11:10 a.m. at Performance Polyamides 2017 in Pittsburgh.
